Hi Guys,
A friend that I have made a few knives for in the past e-mailed me tonight and asked me if I am interested in making a set of pukka steak knives for him.

I went on the www and cannot find anything concise. Only pukka knife I saw was made of damascus steel.

Pardon my ignorance but can anyone tell me what exactly this is?:o

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Miden, are you sure your buddy didn't say "Puuko" ? If so a "Puuko" is a Scandinavian style Blade, living amongst a large comunity of "Finlanders" (and I might add married to one) the virtues of this style Blade I have heard a plenty !! :D Here is a link to a popular maker of "Puuko's" http://www.kellamknives.com/ I hope this helps you out Miden.

Thanks David, it just may be that this is what he was referring to.
I will look into it.
thanks a lot.

Mike

Pukka means good quality or top rate in Hindi (it actually refers to good cooking)
Puuko means a Nordic blade style.
If you want some fun google "pukka" and you won't believe the first site you get!!!

Hey Toolsteel, Houghton/Hancock is about 40 min. drive due north from me.I live in a small town called "Covington" , which , if you have ever been up here you went right thru to get to Houghton/Hancock.One of those "don't blink" kind of towns.Maybe 35-40 people live "in town":o .Yes,its that big ! I live out in the woods though, well on the edge anyway-BIG WOODS !! If you still have kin here and ever come back ,stop by-By all means. If you put a pin on that "frapper "website the other day,you can see that I'm very lonely as far as other Knifemakers go. Closest guy I know of is " Tim Zowada " Just on the other side of the "Bridge" about 4 or more hrs from me. Now that is a guy I'm going to spend some time with this summer .

Edit: Back to Topic. Miden , did you ever find out for sure what your buddy wanted ??

Yes David, this is what he was referring to.
Thanks again for the link.

I know Covington, Baraga County right? Just south of L'anse? My mother always refered to those little towns in the UP in the middle of nowhere as "Behind God's back" I love Baraga. Lot's of good hiking, lots of waterfalls. I am planing on going up to Keeewnaw to spread my mothers ashes in july, So perhaps I might stop by. I plan on looking at some land on that small bay east of L'anse, I think the area is called Skanee. I did a lot of hiking in that area last time I was up there.
