I recently went to a shop and they have a good selections of the Scandinavian(sp?)pukkos. They are handmade ones-not the red handle ones from Frost Mora and are quite handsome. Handles are of various hardwoods or combinations of such, leather sheaths with reindeer designs and some with reindeer hair patches; even a few minitures. While interested, as I know nothing of this type of knife and there are no real informations on the knife, I am just wondering what should I be looking for and what is a fair price for this kind of collection. I would appreciate any information. Thanks

The best thing you can do is to educate yourself by spending a little time on the internet researching puukkos. Use search engines like "Google" and visit sites like:

www.kellamknives.com

There is a lot of information out there and puukkos are great knives.

Good luck.

Wow, without seeing or handling the knives it is hard to put a value on them or give you any meaningful information. Are they handmade by individuals, produced by a company, hand ground, laminated blade steel, what type of blade steel, grind, size and length? Too many questions. ;)

I would suggest you try to educate yourself about these before you start spending a lot of money. There seems to be a growing interest in high-end custom knives made by several swedish makers (see sites like nordic knives, artknife, arizonacustomknives, and bladegallery for examples), and many folks are quite fond of the production knife companies puukko's because they represent an excellent value in a using knife. The Finnish puukko style knife has a great cultural and history and the knife is designed for utility. The word 'handmade' could cover a lot of knives varying greatly in value depending on many factors. Take a look at some websites devoted to Puukko's. Remember a brand name or makers name and get back to us.
