After much thought and debate, i pulled the trigger on a 12" sirupati, It will get used as a camp chore knife. Has anyone chopped or batoned with one? how did it do?

I assume the blade is approx 8 inches, are both smaller knives fully functional? and what is the "brass inlay" along the spine?
anyone got pix of it? sorry for all the questions, and thanks for any info.

The accessory knives are functional but tend to be small; one of them is actually a sharpening steel (with dull edges) that can also be used with a flint to throw sparks.

The inlays are decorative stampings in the steel that are filled with brass.

Don't know how well the 12 inchers would chop or baton. Here's a photo from a recent review by ndoghouse, an 11.5 inch sirupati, maybe he'll have some more info.

Congrats. I just got an 18" gelbu special blem and I like it a lot. A long time ago I made myself a 10" blade sirupati and it's still one of my fav's. chops pretty well with good technique, and batons fine. Weighs about 13oz. Can only assume the same about an HI.

The 12" Sirupati (Mine is 11.5"OAL) is a really cool utility knife and A nice packable knife. It can easily be concealed. It is not a heavy duty batoning tool although if you had to baton some two or three inch straight grained stuff or some light crosscuts for building a shelter or trapping you could definitely do it. Its too light for a chopper alone. The handle is long enough to use comfortably all day and since it is a lighter blade it doesnt need the girth like many other larger blades. Im finding it a very useful tool when Im doing two hands on stuff like draw cutting, berry harvesting, whittling, and many other camping tasks. The blade in about 8" and thickness at cho is 0.32" (8.0mm) so it is a stout little knife! You should be very happy with it for a camp general utility knife. Now if you clean food and little critters like I do when camping then you will love it! They are beautiful knives as well. The inlays are cool!

thanks, I was looking for something more than a mora, bk7 and less than a full blown AK,

ndoghouse do you have any close up pics of the inlays? does the blade contain any nagari script on it?

I tried to get closeups of the inlays but not enough light for my camera. Will try again later. Heres a few shots from when she was new and shiny.

The one in the background is a 25" Sirupati. They do have Devanagari Script. It is typical for UB (for Uncle Bill-Founder of HI) to be engraved with Bir Gorkha (factory name) in script on one side and the Kami name in script as well as his makers mark on the other side. Mine was made by Rajkumar.

25" Siru 11.5" Siru in middle and Kagas Katne on right for scale.

They're generally more useful than a straight knife of similar length and weight. I sort of consider them a "ka-bar with a bend to the blade". It makes a great light weight utility knife.

I've often thought a super beefy one with a chiruwa tang would be a very robust bombproof design.

thanks for the close up pics, i thought the kagnes kate was a letter opener? that looks like a HUGE letter opener, lol.

Kags are pretty cool little knives too. I have three of them. One lives in my front pocket. I wish I could carry my 11.5" Siru for EDC but its too long to legally carry here.

you carry it in your pocket??!!!!, isnt the blade like 6 "?, thats a huge edc, i carry a crkt m16-14sf and get "stink-eye" for doing so. And it is legal here,

on another note, i am still waiting on my biltong i ordered from HI on nov 1, hasnt arrived yet, is it bigger or smaller than the kagnes katne?

Biltong is bigger all around than Kagas Katne. Dont have one so I cant say much more. Kags blade is about 4 1/4" handle only 3" so about 7"OAL. Im able to get three fingers around the grip. You can choke up on it with a finger on the cho and get all four fingers on it for a good grip. Your Biltong must not have been in stock or you would have had it long ago.
