It took me a long time to make the decision between a 16 and 17. I like the strength of the drop point, but sometimes the "pointyness" of a clip comes in handy. I do quite a bit of big game hunting and thinking about caping out around the tear ducts of the big muley buck I am going to shoot this fall finally pushed me over the edge and I went for the 17. That pointy tip will make caping a little easier than the dropper. For how I intend to use the knife I think the 17 is the ticket. Tough call. If I love it, I might still have to pick up a 16 someday just to have one.
It will be joining my ever growing Becker Family. I know I know, freaking safe queens.

P.S. I also have a $100 gift card for a large outdoor retailer that doesn't stock many Ka-Bar knives, but does happen to sell the BK 9, so I think that is my next becker purchase.
