hadn't heard of the 53? i like it... the same friend that got me really into knives sent me a picture of it and it was love... [sigh]

will you be ordering one as well?

Cool knife. Too bad it's got a D2 steel blade. I'm not a fan of D2. This will be the 3rd knife Benchmade has made that I like but comes in D2. The 53 has just what I like in a blade shape. Congrats and give us a review when it arrives.

I have to ask:
What is wrong with D2 that prevents you from buying it on knives that interest you?

Agreed. I like BM D-2. I have it on my 710 and it's a helluva lot easier to sharpen than S30V, has great wear resistance (so I'm told) and I can get a mirror edge on it with DMT stones & some stropping.

My BM 710 D2 bites like a rabid dog. :D

Congrats on your new knife man!!

i love the d2 in my 940. no complaints of yet

i think it'd look SICK with a forced patina, not to mention help with those annoying little spots my 940 gets in places i can just see yet not rub out...

pics and review will definitely be up once she arrives. i'm so pumped

d2 is for those that know a good steel from a bad one.

all i gotta say is google benchmade 53. you should see something, other wise i've seen it at knifeworks, bladehq, and knifecenter- .com's

I hear ya about the almost invisible spots in BM D2. My 940 is S30V and no problems. My 710 is D2 and there were 2 spots that looked like blemishes. I sent it back to the vendor and he rubbed them out with something.

I asked to speak with the shop technician who did it but he was on lunch. I never did find out what he did but they were gone and the CS people said it was wiped down with some kind of material they use. No damage to the satin finish and looked brand spanking new.

Ocassionally I get a mystery blemish in the 710 D2 but have found that just rubbing the cr*p out of it with a clean soft T-shirt makes it disappear.

Don't say new BM 710 and patina man, that hurts my imagination! :D

rubbing works, however just under the scales where i cant seem to rub it? little spots and what not show up and bug the sh!t out of me.. but i'm 99.99% sure i'm gonna patina the 53... od g10 is calling for a darkish blade, and i think patina is just what its asking me for :D
