This morning at about 11:00 am, i had one tooth pulled. There wasn't much holding it in there, there wasn't much wrong with it either. It was pulled to prevent future problems. I'm not on any pain medication for it. In fact, there is no pain at all, and bleeding stopped very quickly.

Here's my question: Would i be ok with having a few beers tonight?

Would it irritate it or cause any problems?

Well, all I can offer is personal experience. Several years ago I had a wisdom tooth pulled. It was the only one that I ever "got" for some reason and it come in crooked and just caused me problems. Dentist pulled it, hardly had any bleeding at all, or pain, like yourself. I drank several beers later that day, with absolutely no problems. If you're taking any pain meds, though, double check on indications. Some pain meds and alcohol don't mix. If in doubt, one day without brews won't kill ya. ;)

Go for the hard liquor. It'll keep it cleaner and get you more toasted.

I had 2 of my molars pulled a few weeks ago, and the holes have healed quickly and well, with no "dry-socket" problems. However, I don't drink alcohol (due to gout). Be aware that if you drink TOO much, to the point of getting drunk, you might do something stoopid, like eating potato chips, and if the edge of one of those gets into where your tooth was and you bite down on it, I can tell you that THAT will HURT. Also, you DON'T want to wash-away the blood clot that has formed in the hole, or you WILL get "dry-socket".

I'm having a minor problem right now. It's a long story but it ends up with me having a small cut on the side of my gum which isn't healing very well. The doctor says I have to gargle with vodka everyday to disinfect. I'm supposed to spit it out... that seems like a waste to me.

A shot a day... doctor's orders you know.

And for those of you wondering, "A cut on the gum... a shot of vodka a day... how do I get one of those?" Well, it started twenty years ago when I had two wisdom teeth removed. Apparently, the oral surgeon chipped a tiny shard of bone off my jaw and it's been floating around in there ever since. A couple of months ago, it came out. It came out of the side of my gum. It just sort of popped out. The good news is that my dentist thought the pain was due to a cracked tooth and was about to install a crown when the shard popped out. I went in for a crown and got an exorcism instead.

Just don't smoke or drink from a straw. Dry Socket. You don't want it.

I would prescribe 5 Tylenol-3 (w.codeine) and a bottle of your favorite wine . . . just don't make plans for the next 24 hours.:)

Got a left wisdom and a right molar yanked out yesterday afternoon. Bled for 8-10 hours. Had prescription for Vicos but don't need 'em. Haven't taken anything as the pain isn't terrible, just alot of tension and pressure. Going on 24 hours since I last ate though. Bleeding had stopped by this morning.

Wisdom came right out. The molar was decayed so bad it was flush with the gumline. Had to slice it to get get a grip on it. Thankfully it didn't crumble and came out whole. I picked it up and was looking at it. The roots on both are curled like hooks. That's wild, I always thought they were straighter.

Thanks for the replies fellas. No harm done after them drinks. What's this "dry socket" thing i keep hearing about? i've had my wisdom teeth out a few summers ago, plus this one, and heard about lots of other folk havin' teeth yanked, but this thread was the first time i heard the term "dry socket".
