Finally going to pull the trigger on a GEC after working 25 hours overtime the last couple of weeks. Looking at getting the #56 Dogleg Jack. Anyone else have a review on one or some ideas on if this would be a good first GEC to pick up. By the way thanks guys for all the grief the spousal unit has given me lately lol....I can hear her now "Another knife" :)

The Dogleg Jack is a great GEC pattern to choose. Pure EDC perfection. What handles did you get?

I don't own one, but my experience with GEC tells me that you have made a great choice. I've tried a few different models now, but I haven't tried the dogleg, I love the looks of the knife though. The clip blade looks very useful, reminds me of the #12 powderhorn, which I know is useful. Good luck with the knife......and good luck with the wife.

Great choice on the 56 dogleg, IMO. I really like that frame size and how it fits in my hand.

I have the #56 in Primitive bone, It was a total nail breaker, I sent it back to GEC, now it's a bit more manageable, Absolutely love the design, and the bone, in my opinion is nicer than most Ivories.

I got spear point version fo # 56 dog leg in Ebony... Just wonderful EDC knife. Great feeling on the handle!

U guys are killing me every time I read someone is getting their GEC before me...the disadvantage of living in Europe...
The GEC #56 is the pattern I chose for my first (and maybe only) American traditional. Needless to say that I love it, and I'm sure I will love it much more when I get it.

I have the antique weave jigged bone #56 and absolutely love it. After a few months of carry with the keys in the pocket it really takes on an old look. Great knife you won't go wrong with either one you choose.

LOL Dang it Slider now you have me wanting a Primitive Bone, now have to check and see if KnivesShipFree has one :)

The size.and shape of the #56 are perfection. A couple of things that I have learned after owning a couple that you might want to consider before buying:

-this pattern does NOT have half stops. I prefer them, some don't, others don't care either way.
-they can be a little stiff at first, but smooth out quickly.
-ebony (or other wood too, I would guess) handled models feel light and not as solid (to me), but I prefer bone handles on all of my knives.
-look at the options--my ideal #56 would be a Northfield with a long pull spear point, double bolsters, and natural bone scales, but alas, I had to settle for clip point nail nick version.

These are just my observations. The 56 is a classic, solid knife bordering on perfection.

Speaking of the #56... I have one of these coming in a few days, to keep my #66 and #25 company.

They say GEC knives are addicting. Well...I'm another example of living proof.

When my #66 Calf Roper came in...I couldn't put it down. Nuff said, LOL. The very next day, I was back online looking for another one. That's when I ran across a picture of the little #25. They call it a Barlow, but it just looks like a small Jack to me. Now here i am waiting on my third.

They really are THAT NICE!! You'll see for yourself. ;)

The #56 is a great first choice! It's a good all purpose size with a nice feel in hand. I'm partial to the barehead versions even though I prefer a clip blade to a spear. Whichever you pick, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Here's mine in Coconut Palm.

Wonderful pattern, ergonomic and very sexy lines as well. Here is my primitive bone.

The only drawback to this pattern for me is that the pen blade is on the wrong side. Should be on the mark side like this jack. Much easier to get at.

I should be thankful they did it the way they did. If the pen were on the mark side, I'd probably own every handle material they made in the clip version.

Really like that Primitive bone where do you all pick your GEC up at, KnivesShipFree seem to be out of those

It's hard to go wrong with a dogleg jack especialy one made by GEC I think it is one of the most ergonomic patterns I've ever used.
