Pulsar or Seiko

Pulsar watches seem to be a good value for the money; my local jeweler recommends them.

I'd appreciate your comments regarding Seiko and Pulsar. There's quite a difference in price. Are the differences between the two mostly a matter of style/commestic?

Thanks,
Raja

I have a couple Pulsar Tech Gear Diver Solar 4000's, good solid watches, they're Quartz movements and since they charge via Solar energy (any light source, open sun is the most effective) they shouldn't need regular battery changes, eventually the solar rechargable will have to be replaced, but not as often as a standard watch battery

the quartz movement typically is less than 2 seconds fast per week, remarkably accurate

that said, i'm now more into automatic mechanical watches, i have a Seiko 5, and a Seiko Orange Monster dive watch, i don't like the Pulsars anymore, there's nothing wrong with them, they're good, solid watches, i just like automatics better....

if all you're looking for is something to tell the time and be relatively maintenance free, a Pulsar Quartz watch should be just fine, they've got Seiko quality without the name recognition of Seiko

their warranty is also a lot better, 3 years "bumper to bumper", everything's covered, the movement, the dial, the case, the crystal, the bracelet, everything, Seiko's 3 year warranty is on the movement only

I have been reading alot about watches lately on timezone.com

According to those in the know --> Seiko appears to be far more respected than Pulsar.

I thought Seiko owned Pulsar, or something like that. I'd recommend Seiko, or Citizen. I like the designs that Citizen has a little more than Seiko, but that's all a matter of taste. I own two Eco-Drives and would like to get a Seiko Kinetic. After buying a Titanium watch, I have a hard time getting excited about the steel watch bands, though. Ebay is a great place to buy watches. Just some random thoughts...

Ya, know, they're the same company..kinda like the Acura/Honda thing..
I love it when people drive their Lexuses and point their noses up at Toyotas
Seiko also has a JDM brand called Alba and owns part of Orient Watches

Exactly. Pulsars are the red-headed stepchild of the Seiko family. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Pulsars. In fact, they have a nice, clean dialed watch that I really like more than most of the Seikos. Its quartz, runs well and accurately, but because it says "Pulsar" on the dial it can be had for under $40. It actually has a very Sinn-like appearance (think the 656). I'll try to find the model number, but its a very good watch. I have a Seiko diver, but prefer my O&W WCT Diver, and wouldn't feel that I'd have anything to apologize if I was wearing a Pulsar!

I found it, It's the Pulsar model PXH131. Have a look, it's a very nice watch, though most pics of it don't do it ANY justice.
