Pulsar vs Photon

After reading about the Photon mini-light here I tried to find one. All I could find locally was a blue Princeton Tec Pulsar II. I paid $13.00 for it. Is this light as good as the Photon? It has 2 tiny lithium batteries and seems pretty bright.

The ARC AAA stomps them both IMO. The photon will be brighter with short bursts but leave a Photon and a ARC on for 1 hour then compare them, i have and i have since sold my 2 photons and now own 2 ARC AAA's.

I have the photon, phaser and asp and am always looking for newer & better lights. I haven't seen the Arc AAA yet. Where's the best place to buy online?

I likee my Photon II ( in turqouis )
but had a "Gamma Ray" in blue prior.
I say, your's should give you illustrious service regardless if
"Name brand" or not. A "widget" is a
""widget" IMB/IMO. as a Dr. friend
quipped whenst asked about one "medication" vs. "another", his rejoiner was "It's ALL the SAME $h*t!" And, it is. Sorry.

AET ;)

I disagree. My wife has a brand new $5 LED. I checked out the Photons at a local outdoor store. The photons are brighter in the lighted store than the one my wife has, in the dark outside. There is a HUGE difference, at least in brightness.

Just go with the arc AAA, it just has so much more going for it, batteries are way easy to find and cheap, its waterproof which i know the photons are not, and its pretty much indistuctable. and its regulated so you have the same brightness all through the battery life, unlike the photon when you get 30-60 min of bright light then it is useless for the next 12 hours.

The Photon minis and the Princeton Tec Pulsars are virtually identical in brightness, longevity, size, and any other performance issues. About the only thing different between them are their shape, one being symetrical and the other not. Of the brands that are that small, these two are the most widely acclaimed.

The Arc AAA is a different category of light IMO. It has big advantages over the above two but also has disadvantages like being more costly up front, and being larger.

If you only occasionally use your light and only for short periods of time, the Photons or Pulsars are perfect. And being only slightly bigger than a quarter, it can fit in your pocket very easily.

How does the ARC AAA turn on and off? Is
it a twist-the-head mechanism? Or is it
something more positive (i.e. less prone to
accidentally turning on, or off)?

I used to carry a "mini Mag" (I think?) that had a twist-the-head
on/off mechanism, and what would happen is that it
would turn on in my pocket (unknownst to me)
and burn out, or in other cases, it would loosen so
much that the head/bulb assembly would fall out into
my pocket. Not the hot setup to me.

Just wondering...I have a photon, which works well
when I use it. I had been considering a small SureFire,
since it (by the description I read) has an on/off
mechanism that isn't likely to accidentally be switched
to "on" in one's pocket.

Any other opinions?

The arc AAA has a twist on/of switch. I haven't had any problems with it, and I carry a LOT of stuff in my pocket.

The arc AAA is a sweet flashlight. It is worth every penny.

The photon is cool, as well, but not nearly as bright as the Arc.

I carry one of each. A red photon II, and a green arc AAA - a good combo. The photon is easy to turn on one handed, and works great for short term use. Plus, the red photon's batteries last like 120 hours. The Arc AAA is better for longer term use.

Get an Arc AAA. You won't regret it.

I just got a couple of photons today--stocking stuffers you know--they are bright and easy on the pocket. The size and convienience is a big plus

I just picked up a "Streamlight Keymate" has anyone else tried these?
It cost me $10 and so far is cool as anything. I also own the ARC AAA and some photons I and II. I like the Arc, this new streamlight is a neat little thing so far too.Flashlights.com

I carry a green photon II on my keyring because the small size is more convenient. I usually have a white ARC AAA in a pocket somewhere. Both are excellent for their intended purpose. You might want to check out www.candlepowerforums.com for some good information. Proceed at your own risk though....there's a Surefire out there somewhere.
