Pulse or Wave? Which to chose....

Please give me some first hand experience of which is better, and why? My use will be on the medium level.

Not looking to build a house, but want to be able to use if stranded out for a couple days.

Also, pardon my ignorance, but isn't one of them not compatable with the tool set adaptor??

Thanks for your input.

Mike

If you will also be carrying a knife, I'd recommend the Pulse because all of the screwdrivers (and other tools) lock. If you want one-handed blade opening, and/or a saw go for the Wave.

I don't know about the tool adapter but I think it fits either...go to http://www.leatherman.com to find out. Cheers! -Alan

The Pulse lacks a few tools that the Wave has but I think its a stronger tool overall, good locking system, and yet light enough to carry every day. I don't leave home without the Pulse. My Wave doesn't get a lot of play time.

These two make a cute couple, dontcha think?

I prefer the Pulse, though the Wave has better scissors. My Wave was my daily carry for years until I got the Pulse. The Pulse may find a new home when the Supertool 200 comes out, however.

I think there is one for the Pulse/PST/PSTII/Supertool and one for the Wave, so make sure you get the right one for the tool you get!

My choice was the Wave (no Pulse at that time). My choice would be still the Wave probably because of the saw and the easy-to-handle blades.
Hope it helps,

HM

When I don't care about weight, sometimes I throw the Wave in my bag, sometimes the Pulse. When I care about weight and comfort at all, it's the Pulse. Smaller, more streamlined, everything locks. For one tool for medium use, the Pulse is a killer choice.

Pulse, 'cause it locks. Handled them all, and the Pulse will be my next LM if and when I buy another. I'm fine with the plain old PST, personally.

Another plus that the Pulse has that the Wave lacks is a scale which I find quite handy. Also, I especially like Leatherman tools over some of the competition because they always include a metric scale in addition to one in inches. I don't know why they didn't put a scale on the Wave. It would have been more difficult due to the handles having the liner lock blades but they are clever folks and could have done something. Perhaps it was a cost savings move. -Alan

I have both and like them equally. The Wave has more features, the most important of which is a wood saw. If your not packing a SAK with a saw, go with the Wave.
The Pulse is lighter and the fit and finish is better (I searched through a stores entire stock, about 35, and chose the one that was the nicest took almost an hour and the clerk thought I was nuts

It looks like Hoodoo has a great set-up SAK and Pulse.
Stay sharp,

I have the wave, pulse wasn't out at the time, and am very happy with it. If the Supertool had a scissors, I would throw all the rest away...

..I have old Gerber, Supertool and Wave, have not even seen a Pulse up here yet, will have to look harder. Wave has been on my work belt for 2 years and is a good friend. But I am with the swede on this one. I keep the Supertool on my edc travelkit because of it's strength and size and everything locks. But now there is a Supertool 2000...? damn.
..the wave is more handy around home but take the Super in the woods..

Curious...

In looking at the picture of the Leatherman Pulse in this thread, I find that I do not really know why some attach the cord like this to knives or tools.

Other than looking neat, what is it's purpose? Is it wrapped in a specific fashion? Is this parachute cord?

I may need to do the same to my forthcoming Pulse!

Since I replied above, I have come to greatly prefer the Pulse. The only time I carry the Wave is at work.

The Pulse is perfect for EDC use.

The lanyards aid in removing them from pockets and stuff.

The lanyards are necessary for the Wave. Without the lanyards, it's almost impossible for someone without nails to pull out the tools on that side.

btw, how do I tie those lanyard knots?
