kinda found my new favorite knife...got it as a gift and really just love the utility of it, great size, tough and good looking.

I have a '91...looking for more info and it looks like they are not being made in Germany any more...any way to tell for sure? I'd like to start picking this up but am unsure how to tell the country of origin.

Any info or pics? love mine

Puma IP markings equal imported. Puma has not made their own knives for many years, they were always more of a contracting house. Some are still made for them by German contractors, but now most are contracted out to Spanish firms, Chinese, and maybe Italian firm. The quality is O.K., but no where near what it was a few years ago.

Stick to the older wood or green/yellow boxed Pumas for best quality.

The vintage Pumas were great....I think they stopped making the "old style" full-size 4 Stars around 30 years ago....you can still find NOS models online, but they command a pretty good price. Don`t know much about the newer generation Pumas, but if they`re still made in Germany, I`m sure they`re pretty good. Still got my Puma skinner which came off the production line around 1976....all Pumas from that era had the distinctive "Rockwell Test" dimple on the blade. If you`re in the market for a classic fixed blade, look around for a vintage Puma White Hunter....once you`ve handled one of them, you`ll know the meaning of "They don`t make `em like this anymore".... :-)

puma are making them again. The quality is not quite up with the old ones but they make a good user. Saves your original for the drawer. I have some originals so i can compare the quality. Here is a link to the Puma site description.

Don't believe the price. You can get it for less than $100. I bought one for $69.

Boker make a similar one. However I haven't seen it on US sites. Boker USA doesn't seem to want to import it. Here is a link to the Boker version.
