I just bought one of these Puma Original bowies off ebay for 79.99,it stated it was handmade in Germany.I heard that some of the newer knives are Asian imports.I want to make sure I didn't get screwed,is there anything I need to be aware of to look for when I get this knife,or are these bowies all made in Germany? I don't know much about Puma,so I need some Puma experts help.Is this gonna be German steel knife that actually was made in China?

It's the recent production Original Puma Bowie.

They are made in Germany, but "handmade" stretches the truth no doubt.

Puma is pretty clear about which of their knives are made in Spain, and China, - it's the dealers that display a lack of clarity about the country of manufacture.

It's D1.4 steel, BTW. It's OK steel, not bad, not great.
I think CRKT was using D1.4116 for a while in some of their better knives.

I bought 3 of the puma bowies, and I think they stink!!! They don't look anything like the quality of the original Puma's.

Actually, what would this steel be comparable too,I've never heard of this designation before?

The original Pumas were amazingly high quality production knives.

I got my first Original Bowie 6396 as a gift back in the mid 1970's...

Did you buy them all at the same time?

Though I don't think the fit and finish of the current knives is as good on the 1970s White Hunter that I once owned, I don't think the German made knives are bad.

I think that if you're looking for a traditional type fixed knife with stag, the Pumas
(The ones made in Germany) are solid knives for the money --- at street price.
