i recently purchased a new puma companion. the blade edge was greater than 24 degrees each side and with 10x magnification the edge resembled a hacksaw blade. i used my edgepro apex and re-beveled the sides to 24 degrees. is it advisable to microbevel to 26 or 27 degrees, or is this too wide to improve cutting ability ?

Reprofile it down to 15 degrees per side or less and you will enjoy much better cutting ability, higher edge retention, and much easier sharpening.

At that high of an angle, probably no microbevel. If you decide to bring it down, you don't have to do it all at once... just continue like you did... bring it down to 24, next time down to 21, etc. until you get it where you want. You could now, for example, work on it at 21 deg., and essentially you'd have a 21 deg. secondary bevel with a 24 deg. primary bevel on it.

thanks for the helpful advice. i will work on re-profiling it down and then microbevel. i purchased it before i discovered this site about 1 month ago. since then i have purchased: crk shadow iv, schatt & morgan wildcat driller, ontario RAT 3, spyderco military BG 42, l.w. harsey T1, A.G. Russell deer hunter VG-10, Fehrman peace maker and a c.s. samburu spear. have received the first 3 and blades are great ! is this a disorder ?
