I've run accross a really good buy on a Puma jagdnicker Kraton. It looks like a decent blade for camping chores. Flat ground 4.5" blade and kraton grip. I can't find anything about the "D 1.4 Solingen" steel in the forums and was wondering if anyone has had any hands on with knife or the steel.

thanks

The Jagdknicker is 1.4125 / 57-60 HRC (= DIN X 105 CrMo 17) which is the German equivalent to our AISI 440 C ballbearing steel.

Good work/hunting knife. I like the older stag handles better than the kraton, though. The knife was designed as a small hunter in general and a "knicker" in particular. With the heavy Waidblatt is was also sold as a set (superset). A knicker is a knife that is used to kill wounded game by pushing the blade above the first spine bone right between the skull and the spine. If done properly, it is a very quick and humane form of killing. The round blade design by Master Forrester Frevert is actually because it was found that a too pointy dagger-like shape may lead to the knife getting stuck in the bone.
