Hey all - whats the general feedback on current Puma knives? I know at one time they were quite popular and seem to have a collector base but how do the current knives perform?

Oh, name blast from the past. The Pumas I remember were traditional blades.

I handled a few Pumas at a knife show a year or two ago. Many of the blades were 1.4*** or 440C. The prices seemed high although I admittedly don't know much about the 1.4**** stuff. Most of the fixed blades I remember were wood handles which I don't like. I admittedly like a G10/micarta. I find wood handles can get slick and if not stabilized properly, can chip or crack. I would guess Puma does it right. They've been around a long time.

Not much help, sorry.

Puma is behind the curve in making a knife to modern standards. They make beautiful knives with budget steels, and poor grinds. If I owned that company there is a lot I would fix.
