. . .interested primarily in the PUMA TAC 1 and the PUMA HUNTAC FB.

I have seen little if any information posted on these knives and would like to hear a little bit of what the crowd has to say. These knives seem to have been outfitted by the German military but I haven't heard much as to their construction and reliability in the field.

I would mainly like to here from anyone who owns or has handled one of these knives.

Thanks in advance.

Fossilhunter,

haven´t heard or read about a new knife for German military - and if I had heard, I hadn´t believed it. Our secretary of defence is very penny nipping. Knives for the Bundeswehr is a very sad subject: They chanceld the new bayonet some years ago, and the standard pocket knife comes from Spain, because it is cheaper (Shame on Solingen!).

Puma is nevertheless one of the high reputated brands, providing hard working knives, esp. for hunting.

BTW Solingen is still the world´s forge for bayonets. Even USMC gets its irons from there

I have both a Puma Tac 1 and the Puma scout (which is the same as the TAC 1 except it has a partially serrated blade and 5" of saw teeth on the top) and think they are a real departure from their line of knives. I like the feel and "heft" of the knives. One of the reason they are unusual is they are completely flat on one side. The handles are removable aand can be changed out for other colors but I haven't ween them offered yet. THe sheath is quite substantial. It used dog leash clasps which takes alittle time to get used to. Are they worth the money I think so. The Huntec came 0ut after I bought both knives and don't see any reason for the gut hook. I would if it was smaller and could cut parachute shroud cords etc. If you looking for one I may be able to save a dollar or two, I can usally get them from Germany. And by the way I don't think the scout was ever released in this country.

I haven't seen these new Puma knives, other than in ads in TK, but I haven't heard about them being issued to the German military either. I thought Eikhorn (sorry for spelling) made a field knife for the German army. As far as the German army folder, Aitor of Spain currently makes them.
