Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone had any feedback on these. I checked some other posts and saw that the recent Puma Knives company has gone down hill with cheaper materials. People mentioned the older ones use to be real nice. I was just looking at a couple of folders and was not sure. Thanks again!

The recent down side to Puma is almost all their knives have been made in countries other than Germany for about ten plus years now. I have about ten Pumas in my collection 4 old and 6-7 new. You can see the difference. If it did not come in a soild plastic case then it may say made in Germany or just Germany but don't bet too much on it being true.....

I disagree - Puma has an 'International' group - IP - many knives are made in Portugal, etc, for them. If it states 'Made in Germany' on the blade, it likely means it. I think of them as I do my beloved Bucks - check the models carefully for the country of origin. I have an assortment of their good folders and fixed blades, with an older (25+ yr) 'White Hunter' included. The quality is identical. See my other post in a similar 'Puma' thread running now. Of course, the Sambar stag likely came from India, while who knows where their leather sheaths were sourced... again, like Buck! Puma makes some interesting fixed blades - and very decent folders - although, with the dollar's slide internationally, they are becoming more dear. The blade steel now is somehere between Bucks excellent 420HC and 440C - definitely now a SS. YMMV.

PS Remember - any data you derive from an open forum post is likely worth little more that it's cost (Free - in this case!).

Stainz, I maybe be wrong, but my friend is an extreme knife nut and when he visited Germany he found out there is little still made there anymore. I know for several years Robert Klass had several knives made in Italy that were marked "Made in Germany" clearly on them. I ordered a box of 11" stilettos from Frank Beltrame ( non auto lock backs) and five of the 24 I ordered has Kissing Krane logos on them. The Puma Medici went from $120 to $40 at SMKW and others. Do you think this happened because the cost of labor went down or because they are now made elsewhere????
