Hello.

Anyone have a Puma brand knife or know if they are a good value?

They have a bowie I like and this price is right.

Thanks.

My dad has this old puma sergeant. Takes a sharp edge, but just can't get it to sharp.
It has lots of play too :(

If you mean Puma Tec, my friend has one of their blades. 3 inch drop-point folder, wood inlays and hollow ground blade. No steel marking but I think it's 440C-holds an edge pretty well but not as well as say my D4.

It's pretty solid-survived several months of abuse (throwing etc) with only a loose screw and some edge rolling. I sharpened it out and now it's popping hairs. It cost him about 40 bucks-there's better for the price, but I wouldn't shoot it down.

Below is the Puma #11-6396 'Original Bowie' shown with a Bear MGC Bowie in Damascus and a standard KaBar for comparison.

I had to have it... during my 'Puma' period. I also have a Puma 'White Hunter' - a tiny bit larger but a whole lot more weird. The Puma blade material was probably decent twenty-thirty years back, but today, such SS as S30V blows it away. Still, with a modicum of sharpening tools (...and skill!), the Puma's aren't bad at all - it's just that there are better examples today. If it's the stag handle, consider the Gerber Freeman in S30V and stag - US made and often <$100 via evil-bay.
