I've looked at Puma knives for several years and out of curiousity finally got an Orginal Bowie. It has a saber ground 6.5" blade with an approximately 2.75" sharpend concave clip and stag handle. I am really impressed at the fit and finish - the grind lines are perfect. What really struck me was the great balance (right at the single guard) and agility of the blade. I consider this one a fighter equal to my Randall No.1. I know it's not the latest steel or clad in g-10 and kydex - but it's a blade that moves well, cuts well and looks good. Old fashioned but not obsolete. Maybe this Puma is a bit overlooked in the knifeworld?

Probably! I have an old Puma hunter, I don't even know the model--I bought it in an antique shop for like $10 when I was a kid. Well, it's not an antique, but it sure is a nice knife! Unfortunately, the guard is a little loose, but just like yours, the stag is nice and the grind perfect. That was the first convex-ground knife I'd ever seen. I saw it had no "edge" (bevel) and assumed it was dull--that was a mistake!

Happen to be a fan of the Puma Bowie myself. I drilled out the brass rivots and replaced the stag scales (which on mine were a tad too fat) and replaced them with green micarta scales that are a better fit for my hand. It's nice how relatively small the handle is on it and how it can be controlled. You can actually use your right hand while the knife hangs from the index finger near the hand off the guard.

There are many renditions of the Bowie. I picked up two last year from a place that didn't realize their potential; they have the older carbon steel blades and the grind is a little higher toward the back of the blade. As well, the false edge is legitimately sharp. I keep these boxed away for a rainy day though, and I use my new laser-cut one for the thick.

Great knife. Can't believe there's not more fans of this particular knife.

i just bought one and love it i'm going to have a fighter type sheath made for it.

I'm glad some others share my opinion of this knife. By the way Held's Discount Puma Knives (http://pumaknives.com/) has the Bowie for only $65. This is a great price and the service is very good!

Count me in as a member of the Puma Bowie fan club. In fact, I may be one of the charter members.

Thanks for the heads-up on Pumaknives.com, Loki. Those are some very attractive prices.

The PUMA White Hunter and WH-II are, IMHO, two of the best designed hunting knives available at less than custom prices. Their shape, design, steel and price make them good hunting knives.
