Opinion, then request for info:

Don't see much here on Puma White Hunters. Am I the alone in my favor of them for most hunting and camping chores? The weight and shape of the blades are perfect for my types of outdoor uses. Not the tactical, "shootem-up, beatem-up, blowem-up, battle stabbing Ninja/ Rambo warrior killing tool" that seems ever popular. The only blood on my White Hunters has been elk, deer and moose.

Did not get a reply from my email to Puma so, does anyone know what steel is used to make the White Hunter and White Hunter II? (Stag & Kraton)

Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Nimrod,
Steel on most Puma knives including the White Hunters is 1.4110, which is the German nomenclature for 440A steel
(contents .48-.6%C,1%Si,1%Mn,13-15%Cr,.5-.8%Mo, .15%V)

Take care,
Tobse !

Thanks Tobse,

You Germans sure can give presise, accurate information ... and make some real good/useful knives (Puma).

Thanks for the info.

You're welcome

Just chiming in to agree that not much is said about the Puma White Hunter on these forums.
It's been one of my favorite camping/hunting knives for 30 years. Still is. Like you say, Nimrod, it's a great design for most camping and hunting chores. I'm surprised we dont hear more about them.
As for the steel, I've never really had a complaint. It sharpens up pretty well. This fall, during a deer hunting outing, I reached down to push my knife sheath and revolver holster out of the way as I sat down. The tip of the Whitehunter slipped through the threads of the sheath and sliced open the tip of my finger. Never felt it...noticed it seconds later when I saw all the blood. I guess I'm not a real "steel snob".....any reasonably good steel can be turned into a razor.
Puma White Hunter...an old and remaining favorite.
