puma white hunter

Hi,
I own a Puma White Hunter. I have been searching the Internet for reviews but haven’t found any and anywhere I read a little about the knife people doesn’t like it. Why is that, I think it is a fine knife that works well.

carl,

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I don't know what to tell you. I just did a search on a few forums for the White Hunter, and came up with nothing more than an occasional mention: good knife, no details.

I think the problem is that it's a good knife that's been around for a while. The people who get one, like it, nothing to be excited about. The excitement is reserved for "the latest and greatest", the new knife just designed, developed, advertised, breaking into a crowded market.

There are so many good old standby knives that people actually carry and use, but rarely talk about, because we all know about them already. The reviews get written and argued about new knives trying to find a place in our lives!

The utility of the Puma WH for field hunting, dressing and skinning large game is great. The knife is beautiful (IMO) and very comfortable. The blade shape is not one of general application, but task specific. The stag handles are very nice, especially for the price and the sheath is top shelf. The steel is the German equivalent of our lowly 440A but is servicable and highly corrosion resistant. The design, in addition to blade shape, considers the hunter with the fine serrations for bone and the sharpened edge on the spine for wacking a branch, cracking a pelvis or other tasks where you would not want to use your kean edge. Overall a very nice knife and a very, very nice knife for the price.

If it were tactical, blacket-out, Ninja-Rambo spec-tac-stealth-war-SEAL-Special Forces-Urban Fighter, Suburban Intimidator, it would be more "in vogue."

Enjoy your knife, it's a keeper.
Happy Hunting!

To Carl: I last saw one about 15 years ago in the old Cutlery World in Madison, Wisconsin. It was heavy, well made and had beautiful white stag grips. In its day, it was a bit pricey, but a gorgeous knife. I did NOT purchase it, and I regret it. You have an excellent knife.--OKG

Carl, I have owned a Puma White Hunter for 30 years. It is still in use. In fact, yesterday, I dressed two whitetail deer with it. It is a unique and very nice looking knife. It sharpens up very nicely but doesn't hold an edge as well as more modern alloys. I should mention that I did not notice a reduction in cutting ability between the first and second deer, so edgeholding is acceptable for that kind of work. It's still one of my favorite knives. Welcome to the forums.
