Puma White Hunter

Anyone use one of these

caine,
I have had a White Hunter for almost 30yrs. but have never used it. It's just too damn purdy to get all banged up. However, I do know that there were some of the Special Ops guys in country that had them and used the hell out of them. I don't think the leather sheath stood up too well in the Nam weather but the knife is 440C stainless so it probably worked well as far a rusting was concerned.

i have carried on since my first africa trip, it was designed by puma with input from african professional huntrs, it is a good knife, the handles ar comfortable. the trakcers and skinners would borrow it often to handle large animals like cape buffalo, kudu, zebra. i kept it shaving sharp. i sort of retired it as that knife carried a lot of memories of trips to the dark continent. i replaced it with the knives of alaska brown bear combo,so the white hunter is now a drawer queen. but when i handle it i remember those trips.

good knife, pretty much hand made, real stag handle, each blade has a dimple where it was individually rockwell tested.

I had one from the 70s and though it was a good knife, I didn't care for the grip. The stag scales were fat, so it was wider than it was tall, so it was uncomfortable for me to use.

I have a white hunter 2 I got in 94. Never realy used it, but always liked the knife. I think it would make an ok user..

Cain,
Here is a photo (a very bad photo) of my approx. 30 yr. old White Hunter:

I bought one of these at an estate sale last weekend. It's exactly like Muzzleup's photo except it's been used a bit more. All markings are worn off except the number "22072" stamped in the guard.

Does anyone know what the number "22072" means? Someone suggested it refers to the date the knife was made.

I have 2. One a pre '64 or is it pre '68 ? well anyway the one that is from before the steel change. I also bought a "new White Hunter".

I use the new one from time to time . Not the best but I always just liked them, so thats what i use.

It will go with me to montana next month.

There is a way you can look up the numbers, the code has changed from time to time. I had a list at one time, I'll look around.

here ya go. http://www.pumaonly.com/chart.html
