All,

I am a new member to the forum so I hope this is the right place to ask this question, if not please forgive the newbie. I have a Puma white hunter that was passed down to me by my grandfather who carried it in Vietnam. Prior to his death he decided to pass it down to me for my time in service. I carried it in the gulf so it has a lot of value to me and the family. I however carried it on boat raids and swimming in the ocean so the thing got a little rusty. I cleaned it up well after each operation but was never able to clean under the stag handles due to the riveting. I'm curious if anyone can explain to me how to get the handles off and clean it up. I wished I had valued it more when I was younger and realized the value but can't cry over spilled milk, you just have to wipe it up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Puma uses rivets and washers to hold the scales on. You would have to file the rivet heads off, punch them out, and replace then when finished.

Greetings, All. New here. Quick question. Where can one find the rivets that are used on Puma knives? I've heard them called birdseye rivets and cutlery rivets but been unable to find a source. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I doubt you can find them. They are not cutlery rivets.
I can do the work for you, if you wish.

As this is Veteran's day today I am curious if someone took care of this knife for you. What branch did you serve with?

He and his grandfather carried it while in service. I "suspect" USN/USMC since it saw saltwater boat rides. either way Thanks for your service Bandit19 (BTW your grandaddy had excellant taste in knives  :D
