Puma's decline

I've been a fan of Puma brand
fixed blade knives since 1962 when I
was given a "nicker" model upon
my brothers return from Germany.
I still use that knife and its
quality is first rate. Over the
years, I have purchased the bowie,
skinner, and several White Hunters.
The last one, a White Hunter, was bought
four years ago, and I noticed it didn't
seem as well finished as my earlier ones.

Three weeks ago, I ordered two more Pumas;
the Hunter's Pal and Companion models.

Both are major dissapointments. They look
inferior to my other Pumas in both fit and
finish. Neither blade is especially sharp.
In fact, the only component that has improved
is the sheath. It is sturdier looking.

Does any one know what happened to Puma? Was
the company sold? Has it changed marketing
strategies? ???

I'm not too familiar with the fixed blades, but I've seen a few "modern" one hand-opening linerlock Puma folders with Zytel and Aluminium handles and the quality was okay, but the finish was not as good as their earlier lockbacks.
