What knife did you use or are you going to use on your pumpkin? What design face are you going to carve? Pictures of knives and pumpkins welcome.

I think I will use a Buck 110 folding hunter.

I get pretty anal when it comes to doing something that can be seen as an art (knifemaking is certainly included in that). So for a pumpkin knife I like very thin (height-wise) blades. I pulled out an assortment of hunting and EDC carry knives. All would shave but I ended up using an el' cheap, plastic handled (I broke one of handles off!) small steak/kitchen knives with small serrations for most of it. Only used the sharp knives to smooth the edges up.

The ideal knives would have a blade about 3" long, 1/8" thick, and 3/8" tall. One serrated or about like a scroll saw blade and one plane.

I use the Pumkin Masters templates. I bought a powered saw to try for the carving this year instead of the little hand powered blades.
Power Saw

I have always used an electric jig saw for taking the top off.

Last year I used my Titanium ZDP Leek. It's blade is nice and thin, and not too tall.

This year, I will not get to carve a pumpkin, as we never got to the pumkin patch to pick one out.:(

Past 6 years I have used a Kellam/Ahti Finman.

This year I think I might use my Mora 2000.

I made a knife in woodshop when i was in school thats awesome. I used to collect the broken coping saw blades and grab a screw driver mold at the injection molder and instead of putting in a screw driver shaft id put in the saw blade. works awesome

...I just finished one....

I use no knives though, only for the top, but the finer stuff you really need these little pumpkin saws.

If I end up carving something, it'll probably be with my Pacific Salt. I've never carved before, so for all I know, those dull ones with orange handles work better.

I agree with the little pumkin saws. For me they have much more control. About the only reason they would need to be replaced is because they might get lost.

I like old fashioned rustic Jack 'O Lanterns, a bit o' the old style instead of fancy ones, so I always use a knife. This is the one for this year, a Ranger shiv, customized with a satin scandi convex grind. And orange G10, just for pumpkin sake!

Sam nice custom shiv--I've got a shiv about to be modded by justin and I can't wait to see his work. Also what's that thing behind your knife?

Silverdagger, I have to apologize. I didn;t see your thread and I just started one just like this a few minutes ago. ( :( )

I'll be using my Bravo-1 and Northstar.

I'm utilizing one of my Frost or Ericksson Moras for carving duty, haven't decided yet, leaning toward the 510 Ericksson though:D:):D
