Holloween parties coming up -- one of which includes pumpkin carving.

Knowing I'm a "knife nut", my friends expect me to show up with the perfect pumpkin carving knife, but I'm not really sure what that would be...????

Help!

I seem to do best, like in many other knife carrying situations, with more than just 1.

For pumpkins I like, a nice flexible fillet knife, at least one good 3 bladed whittler, to get those intricate cuts, a SAK with a woodsaw, and last but not least a scroll saw blade, for rapid removal of material. :D

I just use the little kits at the grocery store ( little sections of bandsaw blades in plastic handles ); dont cost much so you can toss em; they cut like crazy, quickly and accurately. Most important, they are safe; one of my friends slipped and cut the tendons clean through on her right arm a couple years ago using a serrated boning knife.
