Wierd little problem, on a SOB (small of back) sheath I made for my son, he stuck it back in and the tip of the sheath was bent...the wicked sharp tip went right through the side, about an inch from the end of the sheath.
In other words, instead of bottoming out and seating properly, when the knife was about an inch from seated, it went through the leather on the side of the sheath.
I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this one beyond using Kydex for the next one...leather is kind of nice to wear though.

Can anyone suggest ways to deal with this?
Thanks!
Andy

How thick is the leather used on it? A stiff welt would help as well.

If all else fails you might think about lining the blade part of the sheath with a bit of kydex. Just sandwich it in there.

Thanks for your reply.
It's regular 8-9 oz with the next size larger welt. The sheath got distorted from sitting against it, so the tip wasn't lined up with the rest of the sheath.
I guess Kydex would be the way to go, I can't think how else to stiffen it.

Wood insert or kydex. Those small of the back sheaths are a bugger.

8/9 ounce takes quite the push, even with a razor sharp double edge knife.

Occasionally being very aware of knife placement is important. More often taking precautions like a liner is more expedient.

About 80% of the sheaths I make are horizontal carry. It's going to depend alot on what kind of leather you are using. Tandy leather in 8-9 ounce for example is still very soft and pliable whereas Wickett or Hermann Oak tooling/ holster leather is much more stiff to work with. A double welt of Hermann Oak and that thing is going to take alot of effort to bend out of shape.
