a few months back we heard some whining coming from a bush near the house, in the bush was a wee little puppy, whimpering :(. he was pretty close to death, had most likely been abandoned (no missing dog reports matching his description, no collar, no chip) so we decided to take him in.

here was day 1, as you can see he is just a hair longer than a spyderco military

and here was one taken today, much larger (and much more energetic) he's also grown from 4 pounds to 9.

Looks like he is doing great now. Good on you and your family. I have learned over the years to cherish every moment of puppyhood that enters my life. Even the more messy and challenging ones. ;)

he has his moments. for some reason he thinks my hands are a toy  and a few button up shirts became buttonless :D

He had a hard start, but he seems to have found a good home.

A few months ago, he was just hours away from being some other animal's easy dinner. Look at him now! He's strong. He's healthy. He's growing. He's found a loving pack. And he's living in the lap of doggy luxury. From nothing to everything a dog could want. What a good story.

What a wonderful new family member you have. What is his name? Puppies are still learning. And mouthing is normal. Now is the time for him to learn that it is never okay to put his teeth on a human. If he wants to mouth your hands, make a loud noise, like "ACH!" and remove his toy (your hands). Replace your hands with a chew toy and say, "Your's." Or something like that. Then praise. Sounds like you need to puppy-proof your house!

Since puppy came into your life so young, It would probably be a good idea to enroll him in a "puppy kindergarten" class, as he has been deprived of the normal littermate and mom interactions and may not have had sufficient time to learn all about doggie communication and what is acceptable behavior. Just a thought.

Congrats! Did puppy have delightful puppy breath when you found him? There is hardly anything better than puppy breath (smell-wise).

he's much better about biting hands than he was at first. at the moment he still remains nameless. either "puppy" or "pup-pup". its hard to get 4 people to agree on a name  :D

and yes he had stinky dog breath :barf: :D

Wonderful story, here's to you and your family. Looks like he's got a lot of Border Collie in him, he'll be a handful, trust me, I've got one. Getting him socialized is really important, get him with other dogs, and people. Ours started at a dog park after her third puppy shots, we invited neighborhood kids over to play with her. She is now 2 3/4 and a pleasure to have around, plays hard, loves kids and most other dogs. We also tried to introduce her to different sounds and experiences every day. Maybe an ATV, Motorcycle, traffic, kids. Today you can operate anything except a gun around her and she's fine.

Wait until he starts herding everyone.LOL

when he was younger he would pile up all his dog toys in a certain area. if i were to move them he would quickly pick them up and run them back to his spot. he hasnt been done that in a little while though.

Best definition yet of the term "Lucky Dog"! Glad he's found a home. Good on ya!
