They both seem like nice knives, which one is better in your opinion for a general utility knife. I wouldn't EDC this but use on occasion when I needed a heavy folder. I currently EDC a SAK Tinker and sometimes a Spyderco Native.

Thanks

They are both GREAT knives, I personally have a JYD 2 and would recommend that.

It Is cheaper and ALMOST the same.

That's a difficult choice, both are great knives. The JYDII has great ergos and the Tyrade is a great deal. I also EDC a SAK tinker, except it stays in my back pocket next to my wallet and usually a Kershaw RAM or JYDII rides in my right front pocket. I'm biased towards the JYDII, it is one of my favorite designs, but I'm sure which ever one you get you will like

To me the Tyrade has better ergos and the assist makes opening a thought less task. The Tyrade as a thicker blade so it'll probably take more abuse, and the blade being thicker makes the handle thicker. That may make it more comfortable for long durations of use. The Tyrade also has a slight recurve and that may or may not be something you want to consider.

The JYD's thinner blade will make it more of a slicer. The handles on the JYD are also thinner and more narrow which make a bit of difference when it comes to fitting in the pocket. The JYD's pocket clip is a bit funny but it slides on and off the pocket easily but not so much that you might loose it. Then again the Tyrade clip is pretty good to and is let noticeably.

If it really was going to be an occasional knife that sees hard use I would go with the Tyrade. But if you have the money, do what I did and just get both.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I went ahead and ordered the JYD II composite. The Tyrade may be a future purchase once I have some time on the JYD II.

Though late to answer, I would say the Tyrade. These are knives that will not be built again. Once they are gone, there will be no more. I like the beefier blade of the Tyrade along with the weight of 6.7 ounces as it gives the knife a very solid feel.

With all that said about the Tyrade, I also like the JYDII's. I have three of them; regular model with gray scales, composite model, and the SG2 titanium model. Out of them the composite is my favorite hands down! The thinner blade makes it a great slicer and the blade ergo's are simply excellent, as is the handle shape.

Your choices had no real downside as you were in a win/win situation!!:D

Both are great knives. i will echo what others have said. I prefer the JYD II SG2 for EDC because it is light and pocket friendly but in a situation where I was out in the wilderness I would go with the Tyrade (Ti version) because it is very sturdy.

I have 4 JYD II SG2's (1 user and 3 NIB) and 2 Tyrades. I think these 2 are Kershaws best production knives.

4 Sg2 JYD? No wonder nobody else can find them anymore... :D
I would say pick up the Tyrade as soon as you can. I know you already got the CB JYD, but once the Tyrades are sold out, they're gone. I have an Orange one and can't recommend it anymore, it isn't a slicing machine like my pocket chef knife, I mean JYD, but with the extra girth and and the option for tip up/down, AO, and great ergos make it a steal for it's low price of $75-$85. It's a great knife.
I wouldn't mind if Keeshaw could make another run of the Ti Tyrades in a blur anodized finish or something along the lines of that. Maybe with a ZDP cutting edge and a polished blade? I think that it would be a great gentlemens knife, except that it's huge and loud. :D Maybe it could be the "knifenut" gentlemens workhorse?

For me... JYD II CB.

The main differential reasons why I prefer the JYD II CB to the Tyrade:

Not a fan of assisted openers. Seem like a good enough idea, but actually not that good from a safety (having the blade under spring tension can have unexpected results at times) and flexibility (no inertial opening with assisted openers, can't open easily from a reverse grip) standpoint. The JYD II opens just about as quick and easily as any assisted opener. Smoooooth...

Reverse curved blade. I don't need the headache of trying to sharpen that reverse curve on the Tyrade with my benchstones. Maybe if I had a sharpmaker or other system that could make it easier, I would think differently.

Looks. I like the pattern of the join between the two steels better on the JYD II. Not a fan of the wavy, splash pattern of the Tyrade.

My tiny knocks on the JYD CB II:
No reversible clip. The clip on the JYD is a little over the top in looks, but I find it functionally works well. I kinda like the slightly thicker blade of the Tyrade.

The JYD II CB and Tyrade are pretty darn close to each other, but the given the above differences, my choice is the JYD II CB.

Geesh why pick two really good ones? :D I'd just get both.

It boils down to if you like assisted opening, a recurve, and what you will use it for.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I don't have a JYD so I can only talk on the Tyrade. I say get one while you can, you can always sell later for same or more if you don't like it. It is big, but strong as an ox.

In fact, since my last post 10 mins ago I went out and ordered the Orange version to go with my Tan Tyrade. Doesn't take much to talk me into something. A JYD is next on my list after a few ZT's (200 & 500).

The JYDII won't let you down.
Had mine a for year now and it amazes me just like it did the day I got it.

BTW G10 Tyrades are very limited.

Well, I got my Kershaw Junkyard Dog II and it is a nice knife. I liked it so much, I decided to get the Tyrade with tan G10 scales also :)

Thanks!
