In a previous thread, I wrote that I was looking into a Buck 109 fixed blade. Well, looks like I made a gross error, and I'm not sure why or how. :foot:

Anyhow, I went back to Dicks Sporting Goods and decided to buy the Buck 473 that I was looking at. It fills the void I have been feeling for a sub-4" outddors knife that I could beat on and not worry about. It is Chinese produced, but I put faith in it do to my trust of the Chinese made 373 Stockman that I carry daily. The 473 has a 420 blade and Edge 2x blade grind. The handle is hard, yet sort of tacky rubbery feeling. The nylon sheath that has a plastic liner will work with belts up to 1.75". It is coverd by the standard Buck warranty, and comes in a clam pack.

Finish on the knife was excellent, as was fit. Even the sheath worked well, and retains the knife. That does not usually happen with cheap knives. However, there was a lot of small metal filings that I needed to remove from the blade myself- the looked like knicks in the package but clearly were not later:jerkit:

I'll have some pics up later. I did notice the blade stamp was not traditional Buck, but I guess every thing changes over time. The only other thing I could wish for on this model is a better top thumb rest. It is lacking in this area, and I worry that there is an increased chance of thumb slipage.
