Well fellas (and ladies reading this) as the title states a little over an hour ago I got my first piece from Emerson.
After reading and reading this forum and doing the research etc. I decided on The 7. I wanted the satin/waved, but of course "we are out of the satin". Story of my life...heh.
So I "settled" for the black. I wasn't going to leave without one, I knew if I just didn't pull the trigger that another year plus would go by and then I would have to stop reading the Emerson forum and that wouldn't be any fun.
I definitely learned from the Para2 fiasco to not just blindly decide from opinions and if you're lucky enough to have a knife store close....to actually get it in your hand. That is what I did.
You guys have read it all before and I know the responses before they happen - Ha!- but I was surprised by how it felt....though I was prepared by others saying "blocky" when it came to The 7...I now know what they meant. Not "quite" as bad as I had in my mind but I see what they meant. As I hold it now (been a tad over an hour and a half) the shock of the feel of what you thought it'd feel like compared to what it really is has worn off. It's not bad. Not bad at all. I now also understand the gritty feeling in the pivot because I have never experienced that before in any other knife, not even close.
So I am prepared to break her in and go through the experience one has with a new piece and new maker and expectations. Now I can make up my own mind. Thanks to all in here, I know the love you all have for this company and their product and actually it is quite astonishing. I am curious if I too a year from now feel like many of you do. I wished they had the Super7....now that would have been sweet and I did notice that the choil with the Roadhouse made that knife VERY comfortable, actually it felt better in the hand (at least at the time) than The 7 but I already have that type of upswept blade (pretty close) and I figured The 7 was a good starter Emerson. I hope I am please in my decision 6months/year from now. Fingers crossed.
