Purchasing my first Fallkniven, could use some persuasion

Well I am going to get my first Fallkniven. I've read so many post on here and other web sites but really can't decide which route I should go. I have literally poured 20 hours this week into researching and reading about them and watching YouTube videos.

Because I am in Texas I want to keep the knife under 5.5"s so I can carry it if I want to outside the realm of a camping or hunting trip. That narrows me down to either the F1 or S1 for purchasing or that I am considering.

I really like a larger knife but don't really have a smaller one of high quality in fixed blades.

As for knives I have: Cold Steel SRK (have to be hunting or camping to carry this one), SOG Seal Pup Elite, BK2, Ontario ASEK and just added an ESEE 4. I have several other knives but they aren't on the quality level of these listed. Have plans to pick up the Queen Cutlery Hunter as soon as I can find the one I want in stock somewhere. I think that one has a 3" blade. I think if I had purchased the ESEE 3 instead of 4 I would have went with the S1.

Anyways I have read a lot on here, differences/similarities between the two and both seem like I can't go wrong with either.

I hunt, fish, camp, shoot guns a lot and have a very rural and outdoor lifestyle. Live on a 100 farm.

Knowing all this, and if you were much like myself, if you had both of these knives which one do you think you'd be picking up and carrying with you most of the time?

Just looking for something to sway me off the fence to make a purchase and nope, buying both right now isn't an option. Its one or the other.

Thanks for any comments/suggestions/advice.

It seems like the F1 would be the right choice for You.

As a carry everywhere, it's more comfortable to keep weight & size down a bit.
When I carry the F1, I use an open leathersheath.

Fällkniven has an open dangler for the F1, that works well IMO.
This sheath isn't a standard option and is sold as an extra option.

The S1 with standard leather sheath is also a wellworking open dangler.
For use in the forest, I prefer the S1, but as EDC the F1 is the way to go IMO.

Regards
Mikael

Agree with above. F1, now. Save your money and get the S1 later.

I hated the Zytel sheath with mine, and made my own Kydex one instead. I am going with the A2 next, before I get a S1.

I have the F1 with Fallkiniven micarta handles and the leather sheath. Very well made knife. Good all around knife for woods use.

F1 FTW. I like the length of the S1 for your application, but something about the blade shape turns me off. If it came in the same blade profile as the F1...now that would be a knife to be reckoned with.

F1 is a great knife. High quality, great steel, well made, comfortable.
It the kind of blade that will be passed down from generation to generation.
Big enough for just about anything a knife could be asked to do, and small enough to carry and not be in the way.

Go for it !

F1/S1 are two different knives. F1 is a five inch pry bar. S1 is a four inch slicer. ESEE4 is close to S1. First add a stout three inch folder like PXL Workhorse. For an upgrade Cuscadi sells Micarta canvas scales for it.

It wouldn't be the first time I mixed them up. My bad. Still, my comments stand. Any sharpened edge will slice. How fine may be subjective.

The F1's blade is 3.8". The S1's is 5.1".

I'd recommend the F1 for your use. If you need anything bigger, an axe or saw will likely do it better.

Had both the H1 and F1. Just seemed to like the F1 best. Sold the H1.

Given you already have the ESEE-4 and the CS SRK I think the F1 is what you are looking for.

What I would suggest is trying to find either a blank or one with custom handles. They are a lot more comfortable in the hand, but Fallkniven have stopped making the blanks so these versions are going to start becoming harder to find.

That said, the factory F1 is still a heck of a knife.

Here's my customs:

The F1 is a nice EDC and a capable knife. The S1 is a lot of knife in a compact package, it is very confidence inspiring. They both come with a nice fine edge that cuts like crazy.
Here are some quick pics in some really bad lighting to give you the size with the stock handles.

Thanks guys have decided the f1 route. Now only to decide where to buy it from. Looking around tonight knives ship free wants $159, while knife works wants $139 and I started to go with them as I love their service but found it for $119 at knife supply.

Anyone know about knife supply? Their price seems to be pretty low and I am often leery of deals that seem to cheap. Got a knife off of Amazon that was new and supposed to be a Cold Steel knife that turned out to be counterfeit one time.

If knife supply is a good company and reputable then of course I'd like to save the $20 extra bucks. Otherwise I think I'll stick with knife works for $139 unless someone can direct me toward a better price from a reputable dealer.

Thanks again guys for all the help. Really glad I found this web site. I am sure I will be back to find out how to best sharpen the convex blade after I dull it, lol.

You SRK is close enough to the S1. It sounds like you made a good decision with the F1. Its compact enough to keep with you all day, every day, with no problems or discomfort. Anything larger and you may pass on it and be without a knife.

I give the thumbs up to knife Supply. I always check with them when I'm on the hunt for a new knife. I have purchased from them dozens of times with nothing but great service, fast shipping and good prices.

Let us know when you get it in hand and give us your impressions.

The f1 with leather sheath is $129 at Knifeworks with free shipping. Knife Supply charges $8 for shipping.
