how many pure blade systems of kali are there ?
i know of Sayoc Kali, Pekiti Tirsia, DeCuerdas Eskrima

There is no such thing as a "most efficient" or "best" blade art. Is like asking which is the best Martial Art. They're all great. The problem are mediocre instructors/students. As long as you are serious with your training and do so realistically, you'll be fine.

I don't know whether Comtech qualifies as a FMA system/school, or even as a "pure" blade system, but when it comes to blades and things related, that is definitely where I would look first.

What do you mean "pure"? Ilustrisimo and Giron Arnis are blade systems though they have sticks, short and long staff methods also.

Pekiti Tirsia (as taught by Leo Gaje) is not a "pure blade" system. There are all sorts of techniques, just like any other art. It's big claim to fame is non-differencial treatment of hand and weapon techniques; they are interchangable (though this is of course common in serveral styles of Kali). It's definately not "all blade, all the time" like Sayoc.

I agree with Matt and Switch. I have a hard time understanding what is "pure." I started out learning DeCuerdas and Serrada. I'm ultimately satisfied training in Pekiti, but to me everything's the same.

Pekiti has tons of great empty hand techniques and drills. However, as already mentioned they are for the most part interchangeable with blade or stick. I don't know of any Blade only systems? I'd say that all systems I've encountered teach empty hand techniques and treat empty hands as they would knives.

Hey, it just came to me that there is a pure blade breed of eskrima...Olympic fencing!!!:)

As said, Pekiti is not "pure" blade art But I can recommend it From all my heart =) If U can find a proper instructor

Pekiti is "pure blade" in the sense that you are always considering the stick as a blade. From the first day you train, the cutting edge of weapons will be emphasized.

It will be very difficult to fully understand the body movement and footwork required in PTK knife tactics without going through stick training. All the movements are based on what you learned with the sticks.

Very well said...

a lot of kali systems are family based passed down over the years the stick fighting will translate into double swords. the guy teaching sayok kali is a decendant of the creator of sayokwho mixed several styles to create sayok kali.my advice is to learn both western and asian styles so you can be well rounded. remember train hard train fast train leathal. the more you sweat in training the better you will get.
