No fancy bells and whistles here. This one is destined to use. Differentally heat treated 1084, with burgundy linen Micarta guard and handle. The Corby bolts and thong hole are stainless steel.

As designed the entire thing from tip to butt can be cleaned as needed with one of the red (maroon) ScotchBrite pads. Simple and easy cleanup.

The blade is 6 1/2" and the overall length is 11". This is a general purpose small camp knife. It's on its way to the owner right now. I hope he'll like it and that it will serve him well.

Sidenote:

My younger daughter's boyfriend is on his way to Iraq. I am thinking about doing something similar for him -- but maybe with a double guard. He is not looking for a fighter. Utilitarian is what he's really after.

I like it alot Terry. A question though... was the micarta guard your idea or the new owner's? Personally, and looks-wise, I'd prefer a stainless guard. Otherwise, I love this knife. Is there an advantage of some sort having a micarta guard?

as beautiful as simple clean functional gets.
Terry your work is inspired.

Very cool Terry...one that begs to be used.

I've done the micarta guard as well. While I do prefer the look of a ss guard...a mircarta guard is even lighter, and always pretty warm...even in cold weather. For utilitarian purposes it's great.

Great job buddy,
Nick

While I tend to prefer a more fancified knife, there's no doubt that this one is well designed and well built for its intended application. I also like the choice of a spear point blade for a working utility-type knife. Great job Terry!

Wow, looks like it would be a great woods companion. I like it just the way it is! The guard flows perfectly, and looks like it gives enough safety, without being in the way.

The micarta guard was my request, but based on Terry's pictures a while back of one of his hunters (or an El Camino?) with a similar treatment. The purpose of the mic. guard is:
1 - Weight
2 - Comfort in very hot or cold weather
3 - Noise (doesn't 'clang' as much as metal)
4 - Shine.

I'm quite convinced that this is the only rational choice for an all weather outdoor knife. We'll see. I wanted a synthetic handle for the practical aspect too.

This knife is meant as a "true" camp knife. I do quite a bit of backpacking, and the camp knives we see generally here are so big they're just not an option when one has to carry stuff by foot. I have a couple similar projects with other makers and I want to try different things.

I hesitated between the spear or clip point. I eventually decided for spear. I also hesitated between a single and double guard but eventually decided that the single guard would be more practical, even if the double one might have looked better.

I think your overall design is perfect. I really like the spear point. Hope you do a write up once you take it on some trips, it really looks like it will serve you well.

Good score Joss!!
Terry makes great knives and this is no acception. Looks like a real user. While I like purrrty knives and have a couple, I like the users the most. I believe it will serve you well.

I personally also like the synthetic guards - I make them too. It tends to polarise customers and makers, but I agree with all the points put forward by Joss. And trust Terry to execute it this nicely !! Good one for the both of you ! Jason.

WOW!!!! That my friends is close to what I'd consider perfect for outdoors use in a large knife. Great job, I really like it!

So I received the knife today, and I am very, very impressed.

I have to say that the micarta looks great. The color is a more pronounced burgundy than on the picture.

The knife is light and yet solid, and I think it is exactly the right size for the job.
