Just received this Purna Chainpuri a few days ago, it's a great knife, light and fast, arm shaving sharp. Purna really knows his stuff!

Love how it feels "in hand"

Check out that blade! That's NOT rust or an imperfection, it was some dirt that got on the blade from the floor, I forgot to wipe it off before taking the pic in a rush.

Love the small butte, don't know why, but I just do.

If you don't have one.....get one!

I have a Purna Chainpuri of 15 inches and 16 ounces that I received yesterday that I love already. One thing I've never gotten is how everyone seems to get knives that are shaving sharp but never me. And I'm not limiting myself to HI knives when I say that. I own only one knife that is shaving sharp, and it has one of those toothy edges (not serrated but toothy) that makes it shaving sharp, though not desirable for shaving. After trying my Purna Chainpuri, I managed to get one hair and that was it.

I would say that 85% of my HI's came near razor sharp. The others very utility sharp which was stated upon purchase. I guess I got lucky... All my HI swords are extremely sharp.

Beautiful piece there, cul.

I agree that there's just something cool about the smaller buttcap. I may be totally off base but it seems like it would be harder to shape a handle with one of those than the full buttcap.

all you need is a diamond steel and a few minutes and you can shave your shadow with one of these blades
I use a restaurant steel from my days as a chef. you can have a really nice one for 20 bucks

just using amazon for reference I am not getting paid for click thru's or any similar

I use a ceramic rod, and it seems to work just fine. I also have a diamond steel rod, which works just as well too.

I think so too, maybe that is why I just sort of like it. What can I say? I'm strange like that...lol

Form experience-closely fitting a full buttcap like that without a filler material Is Not Fun...

Our Chainpuri are so similar, I wouldn't be especially surprised if they were made on the same day. I'd post pictures, but I don't own a decent camera.

One of the things I think is really cool is the way that the bolsters, in addition to being much shallower than most kukri, also have a gentle curve from the flat to the bolster. I rather suspect that these Chainpuri for the most part aren't ground, they're forged to shape, even the bolsters. I also tested it against it's triangle box and it made rapid work of it. It chopped and cut into the box beautifully. As my primary interest in knives is fighting, my Purna Chainpuri within an hour of arriving became my favorite kukri, and as kukris are my favorite knives it became my favorite knife overall.

Well, thanks Gent's, really looking forward to my first Purna Chaipuri, the DoD wed 4/15A group, 21" 33 0z. All the pics here show Purna's Superb skill.

Great pix and post, thank you for sharing
