Purple Rod Steel?

Got me a few pieces of 1 1/2" Rod painted Purple. Anyone know what steel it is? Good for knives?

Only good for purple knives !!! Makers ID their steel by color but all makers don't use the same color code. HT a piece and see if it works.

The company that sends us our rod paints the ends purple,
as a mark that its grade B-7.....But that does not help you
sorry

These rods are all purple. Used for something by our freeway. I haven't spark tested them as yet. I think I'll do that now.

Rebar for concrete?
maybe you could figure out who supplies the freeway people the steel?

It's not traditional rebar, just smooth 1 1/2" bar. probably easier to just harden it as suggested. Sparks pretty good, but not the best.

It depends on where you live and who the supplier is to your area or of the material. Check with several steel suppliers in your area to see what the color schematic is in your neighborhood. In my area purple is usually 4140...Ed

I think that stuff can only be quenched in Purple Rain...

I was going to say in Washington and Oregon purple almost always stands for 4140, but looks like Ed mentioned it already.
