I am moving from just getting whatever trips my trigger, to making more thoughtful purchases. I still have production knives, but I prefer to get to know makers. All of my pieces are users, none are expensive. However, while I can trade or sell something down the line, I want to have a purpose in my "acquiring". Any ideas on how to not get bogged down with stuff that just falls out of favor with you? I have found that, through talking with makers, and visiting with them, I am starting to realize what I want. Not that they are trying to mold me to their way of thinking, but that I am discovering what my needs really are through communication.

I really don't like the term collecting, for me. I only get knives that I can use, mainly for EDC and camping.

I'm right there with ya buddy!

My method is simple- I'm poor, (money-wise)!
You gotta be pretty particular and patient when you don't have much money to spend:D.
This ain't no race, but if it were, you know the turtle always wins...

You have just described the point I try to make to new collectors on building their ultimate collections in my collecting seminars. It's all about being patient in learning everything you can to determine which knives you will be satisfied with long term rather than buying on impulse.
