What do you mean by transitional?

a radius meeting a 45deg chamfer do not meet up nicely..That is what the notch is for. It's a visual thing. Nothing more

It does, but it is a visual thing, just some extra style to make the Inkosi different.

Nystagmus it won’t work for a firesteel, it has no sharp corners.

Doesn't the Sebenza handle this nicely without a notch?

The jimping on the 21 isn’t as deep as on the Inkosi. Easier to make the transition without the notch that way.
