Purpose of Reverse Tanto Blade?

I can understand that a clip point blade is for pointwork, and that a modified spearpoint might be the same with a little more strength, but what is (are) the purpose/strengths of a reverse tanto?

Any other useful shapes for a general-purpose EDC?

If you want to say "reverse tanto" in Spanish, you say "poco".

It is used the same way as a wharncliff blade except in Japanese.

There are a few varieties of "reverse tanto" Some more useful than others. My Kershaw Random Task has a great that I find extremely useful for all kinds of stuff from fine slicing to straight cutting to poking and hacking. IMO, it's one of the most versatile shape there is, the tip is nice and sharp, but still reinforced. I guess it's great if you want the benefits of a Tanto without two edges.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm looking at a Benchmade 940 series in D2. They are all out of clip point and modified spear in the Carbon Fiber version, so as a newbie I'm wondering if modified tonto would be a mistake, or if I should just wait for a used clip or spear to come up for sale.

Knife Rat, that knife is weel endorsed among many of us Forumites, as is the axis lock. Personally, I believe you won't be disappointed, but I still prefer my Random task.

Great link. Now that I think about it the Reverse Tanto does look like the tip of a Japanese sword or knife. With a little help from Babelfish and some rusty Japanese of my own I was able to get the gist of the page--nice knives!
