O.K., be gentle. How do you folks define a push cut. I've heard several
definitions, none of which seem to be the same, only similar.

To me it's a slow penetration of the paper, point first, parallel to the
edge of the blade to feel for any very small chips or remaining burr.

Others have defined it as a cut perpendicular to the edge, slicing down
through the paper in about the same spot on the blade, either with or against
the grain of the paper.

What say you all?

I always assumed the second definition. When I'm assessing sharpness, one of my standard tests is to try to "shave" a very thin slice of paper off the edge of the sheet.

Your first definition sounds like a "stab" cut.
