Push Cutting?

Being new to this forum and some of the terms, I see that "Push Cutting" is one way that some folks use to check the edge on their blades.

Would someone explain to me what "Push Cutting" is and how you go about it?

Thanks

so are you saying that you 'push' the blade through a piece of paper and with just the weight of the blade making the cut? Do you start at the top of the page or do your shove the blade through the paper and measure from there?

Depends on the knife though. Larger knives don't even require thier full weight. For paper cutting, usually the sharpness is measured by how far away from the point the paper is under tension. For most other materials you use the maximum force required during the cut.
