I have an awesome natural micarta inlayed large Inkosi insingo. I have carried it in a pair of dark jeans, and the micarta is now brown and blue. Any chance that's coming off, or is this the new permanent coloration of this Inkosi?

It'll probably wear or clean right off. Micarta is pretty impervious. It's hard to even RIT dye it. Even still it's hardly something I would worry about on a hard work knife like an Inkosi.

Years ago CRK used stabilized Mammoth ivory for scales and users complained about the transfer of blue dye from jeans to the Mammoth. I don't recall if CRK found a solution. With Mammoth ivory, the dye couldn't be completely removed, at least by users.

Dont stress. Mine from 2017 dod the same thing. Wash it with warm water and some dish washing soap. Warm water. Let it dry and good as new in my experience.

This. Happens to my orange g10 edc all the time, if the micarta somehow absorbs it even after washing.. try a drop of mineral oil, which is what I use to keep my paper ivory micarta clean.

Same on my orange g10. Magic eraser works wonders on g10. Didn't know if it would do the same for micarta.

My natural inlay had taken the same blue hue. I happened to have a wipe with isopropyl alcohol at my desk that took most of the color off in no time.

I actually kind of love the tint of that micarta! Somewhere between black and natural.

My experience is that micarta cleans very easily with dish soap, water, and a soft brush.

You can try spraying Windex on both sides drenching the slabs completely, and then rest the knife on the spine for at least 24 hours. Depending on what actually chemically got into your Micarta this may or may not work, but it has worked for me occasionally in the past. Good luck.

In my experience the micarta is going to darken quite a bit with time and use anyway - to me that is part of the joy of CRK's micarta inlays.

It is pretty readily apparent when looking at pictures on this site, which knives get "carried" and which one's do not (not trying to throw shade just being honest); it only takes a few weeks in the pocket for them to take on character. I have had darker dyed denim stain the inlays, but then dirt, dust and whatever else is on my hands does a good job of that too.

For example you can compare the 21 Damascus in the photo with the other two inlays. The 21 is a seldom carried knife, and the micarta shows that.

Some pics of often carried inlays -

^ the above pic is actually natural micarta
