now what you need to do is lay your knife on a towel like so

then you take the mustard and put your own art on the blade

Nice tutorial! There's nothing like sitting down with some mustard and vinegar and going to work on carbon steel.

Masteroffajitas, the patina can help to protect against rust. It is a thin oxidized layer that sits between the bare steel and the elements, helping to inhibit further uninvited oxidization (rust / pitting).

I'm partial to a more uniform patina myself, which is one of the reasons I force it rather than allowing it to appear naturally.

All the best,

my patina recipe usually involves lemon juice, mustard and hot sauce. it turns out pretty well but it smells horrible.

Vance - got any info on that knife? I like that.

I'm partial to Brownell's cold blue myself. Not traditional for knives, I suppose, but it does work pretty well.

Pimpnugget, very interesting, thanks  Can we see a final picture after the blade has been cleaned?

got any more rescipies? If you do shoot me a message.btw if you got any thing for stainless steel that would be perfect.

Thanks,
Mike

you cant put a pinta on stain less and the only other one i got is to soak a rag in white
vinger wrap the blade with the rag and let it sit for a hour or so

Mark is tireless in his efforts to educate the youth of our nation. I fear it often falls on deaf ears, though.

I, myself, appreciate it when my errors are corrected as this gives me the opportunity to cease making them. I would hope that others feel this way as well.

My intent was not to be mean-spirited as so many of the comments under the youtube video may have been, but simply to help prevent a younger member of our community from looking/sounding ignorant.

Anyone noticed that egg yolk gives a hell of a patina? I was cutting up some boiled eggs for lunch and left my knife on the chopping board while I had my lunch. When I did the washing later (30mins-1hour) the spots that had the egg yolk on had gone dark almost blue.

Just wandering if anyone else had tried/come across this?

its a PATINA, dude, PATINA ... oh boy how can someone let you play with knives and not teach you a proper spelling of the word PATINA.
