This is the first I've tried putting an edge on S30V steel.

I've carried and used my Vantage Pro for the four months I was away from home this summer. It held it's edge longer than I'm used to on my older Buck's, but it was definitely in need of an edge.

I used 600 grit on my 1"x42" belt sander, then used a leather strop belt with pink compound followed by my smooth leather strop belt with white compound. The whole process took less than 10 minutes.

My Vantage Pro is very sharp again.

I have to admit I was worried about how hard it would be to get an edge again on the S30V steel, but it was actually a very easy process.

I keep mine shaving sharp with just a few swipes on my Sharpmaker. S30V isn't too hard to keep an edge on if you don't let it get too dull.

S30v isn't that hard to sharpen. For me anyway. I've used a sander on a few knifes. I'm always worried I'm going to get it too hot. You just can't beat a diamond stone and ceramic stix.
I think you done right though. Wear the edge off then put your own edge on it. My granddad thought me when I was real young that its more of the same angle on both sides than it is the angle itself. I know a lot of guys spend so much energy trying to match a certain angle. If you just rest your hand natural you will put the same angle on both sides. Your natural angle might be 17• Or 24•. If you have the same on both sides you get that angle razor sharp. I've never see any purpose in sharping a sharp knife. So when I get a new knife I wear the factory edge off then cut my edge on it.

I use the 8" fine and extra fine DMT stones, and then a strop with gold and green paste.

Concur with the sharpmaker comment.
I have several knives in S30V-very easy to sharpen.

1095...D2...not so easy for me.
