Putting handles on a rat/skelly warden

Hello all,
I have a rat warden and was wondering what recommendations you all have for putting handles on it. I am interested in doing this because I think I would like it better with handles. I am also very interested in doing a project on my own, however small it may be.

So here are some questions I have...
1. If using wood, what kind of wood is durable enough to use for handles?
2. Should I fill the middle open space with anything before I put on handles?
3. Where can I pick up the screws/bolts that will connect both sides (something like Chicago screws?)... I dunno if I will use the steel tubing method seen here:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4025582

4. Do I need to strip the coating off of the area I will be applying the handles?
5. Will the standard 3-fastener method hold the handles in place well enough without applying enough pressure to break them?

Sorry for the long post, I just was interested in some guidance before I screw something up. Thanks!

In my inexpert opinion you will have to strip the handle because I don't think screws by themselves will be enough to hold slabs on. You will need to epoxy the slabs on so you will need to strip the coating off.
Micarta or G-10 would probably be a better choice for your slabs but you have to take precautions when working with those materials. As for wood any dense or stabilized wood should work.
Try contacting Ban he does great work and should be able to give you some pointers.
