Putting handles on Stiff Kiss

I just bought a CRKT Stiff KISS as a project knife. I'd like to put some sort of handle scales on it to dress it up a bit. I plan to use it for a light use camp knife. I was considering stag or some sort of Micarta. As far as stag is concerned, where is a good place to buy? UAI has good prices on the size I need. How are they to deal with? What about Jantz supply?

Also, does anyone have any opinions on what kind of pins/screws to use?

If you have pics of Stiff Kisses you've customized, let's see them.

Chris,if you do a search on "Stiff Kiss" you will find a wealth of information.

I did a search. I came across one thread about customizing the Stiff Kiss. The late James Mathis had posted a pic of his, but it is no longer available. I'll try again though.

You may try posting this and or searching in the Shop talk forum.

match the pins to the scales you picked. Brass and stag look nice. Black micarta will go well with either brass or stainless/nickel silver. Match the color and go for it! "Pins" can be bought at hobby shops that sell brass rod. I get 12" rod from a model store near me for pin material. You can even make mosaic pins if you are ambitious enough, but not for this project. I think you need 1/8" pins but I'm not sure.

Why not try something different? There are great looking picked bone scales available in great colors. A few mosaic pins, some contrasting spacers, some better polishing on the blade and you have a great looking little piece.

Thanks for the information guys. I hadn't considered picked bone. What are some sources? I haven't seen any at the few places I've checked. To be honest, I'd prefer to find that sort of thing locally, but as far as I can determine, there isn't anything like a knifemaking supply shop in this area (NoVa/DC area).

Thanks,
Chris

I ordered a set of antique green pickbone scales from knifehandles.com. I'm also going to go ahead and order some stag scales. I figure I'll use whichever one I prefer for this project and have the other for a future project.
