Putting My Money Where My Mouth Is (A knife I designed)

I've had some problems about my Facebook Pictures disappearing, so here goes...

Here's a knife I designed myself. Ben Potter, the ultimate bladesmith, made this for me on his forge. It's a Seax, but I wanted an older design, that was more Germanic than Scandanavian. It's got a wide, tapering blade, primarily designed for stabbing. It's not historically accurate in that it isn't patterned on a historical blade. The hilt is decidedly Saxon.

It's name is "Gravind" (Grey Wind) pronounced in the saxon way, with the "A" pronounced like the A in Father. Some tribes would have pronounced it "Gragvind," with the A like the A in Dagger.

It's made of 1095 steel, with a thick, peened over, tang. It's single-edged, with a diamond cross section, slightly thicker towards the back.

It's MUCH larger than it looks:

It's also my interpretation of Sting (Tolkein's sword). It's Anglo-Saxon (Tolkein's area of expertise). It also is like a dagger built for a giant, so, for us human's it's loke a long knife that's "Almost a sword"

There you go. That's my dream knife. I designed it myself and had it hand-made by an actual blacksmith. That's the only knife you'll ever be truely happy with.

Designer and maker did good! Carving on the wood is nicely done, also. Are GRE your initials or his?

No, those Runes are for "Gre" (Pronounced Gra, like A in Father) Anglo-Saxon for Grey.

"Wind" Is on the other side (Pronounced "Vind"). That's the name of the knife, "Gravind" (Grey Wind)

What is the significance of the name? It sounds like late fall or early winter fog coming off of the ocean. Do you carry Graywind in a sheath or a scabbard?

sacre bleu! you don't name all of you knives? I like that you went with the traditional seax instead of a broken back seax not that there is anything wrong with them.
are you going to go with a traditional sheath?

its very nice. very viking era pommel. im pretty sure seax are single edged though. its nice that its been peened over, more traditional.
