Putting the Edge in Swedge

I have been experimenting with sharpening a little bit lately, but I figured the best way to practice would be by putting an edge on something that didn't already have one. I had a set of sog throwing knives laying around, so I decided to sharpen the back swedge of one of these knives.

It's not super sharp, but I did a paper cut test on it and it performed surprisingly well.

I had fun doing this so I thought I'd share, thanks for looking :)

Great work. I also love em sharpened.

Thanks! Now I wish I had an excuse to carry something this big just so I can actually use it.

Pretty cool! What did you use for scales? I've never used mine for anything but throwing, but I've heard that they make halfway decent fixed blades.

It's just ABS plastic, a 12" x 12" sheet was like $4 on amazon so I figured I'd give it a shot :p it actually makes a big difference in hand, I can get a much better grip on it and it doesn't dig into my hand anymore.

That's cool. Yeah, I wouldn't put too much time or $$ into it, but it might be fun for a weekend project. The good thing is that if you break or mess one of them up you can just put the grips on one of the other two. :)

It's nice that machine screws thread themselves into the plastic, you can just screw plastic slabs on then form them with a dremel. Wouldn't take more than an hour or two if you decide to do it.
