I've been making knives for a couple of years. Now I want to start selling so I need to mark my blades with my name or maybe a logo. Can anyone suggest a good system for doing this? I would like to etch rather than stamp. Thanks.

A good place to start might be in the back of Blade magazine. There's always ad for that sort of thing. An art or hobby shop might be another.

Contact Patricia Bruno at Electomark for help on getting your stencil designed. She is the best there is and a terrifically sweet lady as well. She can help you come up with a design, edit it, etc...I think I paid in the neighborhood of $65 for my design. That included artwork and about 8 stencils...you can use the stencils a buncha times before they go bad. Of course, the number of times you can use them is dependant upon the complexity of the design, and how "hot" you etch the blade with your stencil.

Her email address is: pbruno@img-electromark.com

She was a miracle worker for me.

Then you will have to get your etcher to etch the stencil on the blade itself. I would recommend getting a variable power etcher so you can adjust the power to suit your situation. Patricia sells etchers too...forgot to add that.

Best of luck

Make your own etcher. Very easy do do and quite fun. I think it cost me around 50 bucks to do mine and did it in just a couple evening. It Burns deep and leaves the Makers mark nice and black. There is a tutorial on chris crawfords site that makes it very easy. Heres Chris' site http://www.chriscrawfordknives.com/

I agree with Hank....Patricia will set you up just right.

Ditto on contacting Patricia at Electromark. You won't find anyone any more helpful. Great lady.

I recently bought a personalizer plus. I don't have my own stencil made yet but the test one they sent with the package works fantastic. It gives a very professional mark. Now for the stencil.
