I remember a puukko offered by Leichtung years ago that looked pretty good. Stainless blade, heavy duty plastic handle (maybe nylon), traditional leather sheath.

Does anyone have one of these? What do you think of it? Are they still available anywhere?

Thanks

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

I used to get a Leichtung catalog. I don't know why; I never ordered anything from them. I can't remember that puukko. Too bad, I do like the style.

There are plastic handled stainless steel puukkos available from Mora through Ragweed Forge and by Kellam Knives, but I think they're all in plastic sheaths, although the Kellam cheapie I got had a pretty good plastic sheath.

Let's try this again. Is this the knife you mean? I got one from the Brookstone catalog many years ago. They weren't very expensive and still are fairly reasonably priced if you can find one.

Hackman puukko designed by famed Finnish designer Tapeo Werkala (sorry about the apx spelling). They go for 10x original price on eBay. Came in two sizes, the larger being much more common. Have not been made in decades.

That is one good looking knife! Very elegant design. The Wirkkala puukkos seem to be major collectors items now though.

That's the one; the Wirrkkala/Werkula/Hackman. I think it was about $40 from Leichtung. If they're $400.00 now on E-Bay (10x original price), I expect I'll just sigh and do without it.

Thank you.
